Coast Soft Tissue Rehabilitation is not your typical doctor's office. We are focused on filling the void in San Luis Obispo County to help people find answers for chronic pain. In order to help people get better, we need to know exactly what the problem is. Our diagnostic process lets us discover not only what your problem is, but also WHY it is a problem.

Patients deserve better care than they have come to expect, and by focusing on their specific condition and giving specific treatments for those conditions, patients get fixed. We use a test-treat-retest model that lets us not only measure the changes we make during a visit, but your progress throughout the treatment process.

Being a patient is hard work too! We are here to help. Dr. McAllister is a highly skilled soft tissue provider who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of adhesion. If you have a problem and want it resolved, we will figure it out and help you know how to fix it.

Treatment Basics

Restoring Mobility

In order to get you feeling better, the first thing we need to do is get you moving better. By precisely identifying the unhealthy tissue in your body, we are able to effectively treat and restore health to those tissues responsible for limiting your mobility. As you start moving better, you begin feeling better.

Strengthening and Stabilizing

Range of motion without the strength to support newly mobile joints can aggravate symptoms. As your tissue gets gets healthy enough to tolerate it, we will give you specific exercises to stabilize your joints as they regain mobility. This decreases the strain on your joints, allowing them to heal. The stronger you get, the more you can use your joints without pain and get back to the activities you enjoy.

Load Management

Just as important as making things better is not making things worse. Identifying the positions, activities and movements that aggravate your symptoms in order to avoid them is critical.

Pain is your body's way of letting you know that something is wrong and needs attention. The more you try to "push through it," the worse you will make things and the longer it will take for your body to heal.

Dr. McAllister attended chiropractic college at Palmer West in San Jose, where he graduated cum laude. He joined a group Chiropractic practice in Sunnyvale after graduation. After a year there, he decided to move back here to the Central Coast where he opened a practice in Arroyo Grande. While there, he put a large focus on soft tissue injuries in addition to manual adjusting, which led to great results with patients.

When Dr. McAllister began practicing in Atascadero, he began training with the best soft tissue doctors in the world, where his diagnostic and clinical skills are continually honed to keep him one of the elite soft tissue and chronic pain specialists in the country. Our goal is to improve every patient to their peak physical ability, and to provide the strengthening and load recommendations to keep you there.

In order to provide the highest quality care, Dr. McAllister regularly travels across the country in order to attend hands-on trainings with other world class soft tissue specialists.

Shockwave Therapy

Originally used to break up kidney stones, shockwave technology now allows us to treat tissues that were previously inaccessible. When properly applied, percussion waves penetrate into unhealthy tissue to remove adhesion and unhealthy cells. We have had many patients report that they have tried shockwave therapy in the past to mixed results. We simply do it better.

Manual Adhesion Release

Manual Adhesion Release (MAR) is the premier form of soft-tissue treatment to remove adhesion. Adhesions in your muscles or ligaments act like glue; this treatment provides long term healing for your tissue. MAR generates tension directly on the adhesion to remove and eliminate it.

Instrument Adhesion Release

Instrument Adhesion Release (IAR) Is an instrument based form of manual treatment that is designed to remove adhesion without damaging the healthy surrounding tissue. This is unlike any other instrument treatment available, and used only in applications where it is most effective

ABOUT YOUR VISIT

We treat your problem in a way that is specific to you, because your pain is unique to you.

First, Schedule a Consult

We start with a consultation to make sure you are in the right place. During the consult you will meet one on one with Dr. McAllister and discuss the details of your problem. This is the first step in identifying the exact issue that is causing your joint, muscle, or nerve pain.

Exam

If we feel that our office is a good fit for you then we bring you in for an exam. We use the information gathered from the consultation to tailor an exam specific to your condition to learn not only what tissue is causing your pain, but also why it is causing that pain.

Follow Up Visit

Follow up visits will last anywhere from 5-15 minutes and vary depending on what treatment is required for that visit. Your visit will be a combination of hands on treatment, exercise recommendations and load management, among other things. Our goal is to get you better as quickly as possible. This requires several things, but most importantly is a shared responsibility. I will do my part, I need you to do yours.
